The footage of a terrible crime in the largest slum in São Paulo goes viral on social media, which includes Dinorah, a woman who lost her sons in a massacre, killing Nivaldo, a police officer, by setting him on fire. The crime has its repercussions, and the press raises the name of Heloísa Luz, one of the most renowned criminal lawyers in the city, known for winning controversial cases. While dealing with the day-to-day problems of her adopted son, Hugo, as well as her husband, Pedro, who is a prosecutor, Heloísa discovers that one of the people she loves most has become a victim of the flawed Brazilian justice system. As if that wasn't enough, the murderer in the crime that went viral asks Heloísa to be her lawyer and take over the complex case, but she is hiding crucial details of what happened. Gradually, Heloísa is drawn into a trap that involves not only the largest criminal faction in the country and its leader, Zeca, but also mysterious people who are plotting his death. Zeca, who is at the center of the investigations led by Heloísa's husband, also needs to find out why Dinorah killed the police officer and who ordered the crime, before he is next. Tormented by Zeca's words, Heloísa lives out a nightmare. With no answers from the courts for Carolina's habeas corpus, Heloísa helps Hugo to finish a school project, prompting him to ask about his biological mother. During rehearsal at the orchestra, Hugo meets Jonas, the only other Black member of the group. Heloísa continues looking for a way to legally release Carolina, but Zeca takes advantage of the flawed system to close all of the doors. As the memories of Heloísa’s childhood intensify, she visits her first house in an attempt to remember more details of the day when the family tragedy occurred. Meanwhile, Pedro leads the task force that continues to search for evidence about the leadership of the FDC. Flora, the detective in charge, gets a clue that could prove Zeca's involvement with the faction: someone claimed to have argued with Zeca about a snake, and the FDC is known to send a jararaca snake to people who are death-marked. While Dinorah is brought to the prison where she will await trial, she suffers reprisals from agents who want to avenge the death of police officer Nivaldo. Concurrently, Zeca fears for Dinorah's life, as he needs her alive until he discovers the truth about Nivaldo's death. As Heloísa is pressured by Moira and Zeca, she asks her grandfather Octávio, a former minister, to forgive Carolina and help her. The night intensifies when Pedro discovers that one of his colleagues is receiving death threats, and Heloísa faces the news that Carolina's health has deteriorated. Concurrently, at the female prison, Dinorah tries to get a cell phone to talk to Jorge. At the orchestra, Hugo strengthens his friendship with Jonas and gets to know a less privileged universe that makes him think more about his biological mother. Flora arrives at the Forum after the funeral as she passes her backpack through the metal detector, revealing that the snake she recovered has an identification microchip. Heloísa and Rogério confront Dinorah about the person who appears in the video leaving her house at the time of the crime. Dinorah refuses to share any other information, even though she knows that the testimony is her only chance to prove her right to be free. Pedro and Flora check the security cameras on the streets where the prosecutor was electrocuted and realize that the image circuit was erased in a coordinated action. Their colleague's death was not an accident. Moira visits Zeca in prison to tell him that she managed to reduce his time, but Zeca gets angry with Moira for doing so without consulting him, saying that he is safer in prison. To make matters worse, Zeca refuses to let Moira be involved in the process of trading sulfuric acid used in cocaine refining. While Flora follows the snake trail, Pedro seeks information about Nivaldo and discovers that the police officer murdered by Dinorah is related to Zeca. At home, Pedro asks Heloísa to leave Dinorah's case because her client's victim is at the center of the task force's investigation. When Heloísa says that she can't abandon Dinorah, Pedro storms out of the house. Later, Heloísa receives a call from the hospital.
